Color Analysis FAQs

Color Analysis Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Color Analysis?

Color Analysis is the process of identifying the colors that harmonize best with your natural features, including your skin tone, undertone, hair color, and eyes. Using color theory, we determine your season and ideal color palette.

What is included in the appointment?

  • A take-home color swatch in your personal palette featuring 36 expertly curated colors
  • A digital copy of your personal palette, including makeup recommendations & clothing tips
  • Assessment using the 23-palette system (includes both the 10 & 16 seasonal systems)
  • Expert advice on how to use your seasonal swatch to enhance your choices regarding hair, makeup, and clothing (colors, textures, patterns)
  • An introduction to your palette, helping you identify key “wow” colors

How long does the appointment take?

Most appointments last approximately 60-120 minutes. To ensure you receive the full experience and the most accurate assessment, please arrive on time. Late arrivals may reduce the time available for your consultation. If you anticipate being late, please contact us as soon as possible.

Before Your Appointment Checklist

  • Complete intake forms (via email)
  • Submit requested photos (via email)
  • Read over Consultation Client Agreement
  • Avoid self-tanner
  • Wear minimal or no makeup
  • Arrive on time

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend wearing no makeup and a neutral white top if possible. Avoid self-tanner for several days before your appointment.

Can I wear makeup?

For the most accurate results, please arrive with a clean face or be prepared to remove makeup before the analysis.

What if I color my hair?

That's perfectly fine! We can still perform an accurate color analysis. If your hair is currently colored, please let us know and provide recent photos of your natural hair color when responding to the appointment email and completing your intake forms. This information helps us ensure the most accurate assessment possible.

What if I have permanent or semi-permanent makeup?

If you wear permanent or semi-permanent makeup (ex. microbladed or tinted brows, tattooed eyeliner, lip blush, false lashes, etc.), please note that these enhancements can influence how your natural features are perceived during your color analysis.

This should not discourage you from booking an appointment. I am trained to analyze clients with cosmetic enhancements and will still be able to determine your most harmonious color palette by assessing your natural undertone, value, and intensity. During your consultation, I'll also explain how any enhancements may be influencing your overall appearance and how they interact with your best colors.

What if I have a tan?

A natural tan will not change your color season. While sun exposure may deepen the surface color of your skin, your undertone (i.e., the key factor in determining your best colors) remains the same.

Artificial tanning products (ex. spray tans, self-tanner, bronzing drops, or glow serums) can temporarily alter how your skin interacts with color. For the most accurate analysis, I recommend allowing these products to fully fade (typically about two weeks) before your appointment.

If you're unsure whether a product you're using may affect your results, feel free to reach out before booking. My goal is to analyze your natural coloring as accurately as possible while providing recommendations that fit your everyday life.

What happens after my analysis?

You will receive your season, recommended color palette, and guidance on how to use your colors for clothing, makeup, accessories, and hair color choices.

Do I need to complete the forms before my appointment?

Yes. Completing all required forms and submitting requested photos before your appointment helps ensure the most accurate analysis.

Will my season ever change?

Your natural undertone typically remains consistent throughout your life, so your home season usually stays the same. However, factors such as aging, hair color changes, tanning, or shifts in overall contrast can sometimes cause subtle adjustments in your seasonal placement or how your colors are best worn. We always aim to provide guidance that reflects your most current and accurate coloring.

Can Color Analysis help me shop for clothes?

Yes! Many clients find that knowing their color palette makes shopping easier, helps build a cohesive wardrobe, and reduces purchases that go unworn.

Who is Color Analysis For?

Color analysis is for women and men of all ages, including children (recommended ages 10 and up, as they are better able to sit still and their coloring may still change with age, especially in younger children). It’s ideal for anyone looking to simplify shopping, refine their personal style, and build confidence in their appearance through a personalized color palette.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

To provide the most accurate and personalized results, we currently offer color analysis consultations in person only.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellations or rescheduling requests. This allows us to offer the appointment time to another client and keep our schedule running smoothly

Client Testimonials:

"That color analysis with Joelle is something I wish I would have done years ago, but I am so happy to have done it recently! It was not only a fun appointment, it was educational and comprehensive and what I'm taking away is a more informed decision on how to by clothes, makeup, accessories, jewelry and more, instead of guessing what might work now... Joelle is thoughtful, educational and empowering with expert guidance making everything click..." - Mims Goza
